On Monday, October 28, 2024, the HSG Foundation invited CEOs, HSG faculty, and students to an exclusive dialogue. The numerous guests were surprised with a special gift at this event: The lanyard, designed specifically for the occasion, connects the textile history of the city of St. Gallen with the HSG through a unique embroidered motif that is also featured in the ceiling panels of the venue (SQUARE). At the center of the lanyards is the grass-green university logo “Peterli.”

After many years of planning, construction began at the end of 2023. In close cooperation with the municipality of Wittenbach and together with our partners ALDI SUISSE AG, dieBaulöwen AG & Pedrett Partner AG, we are implementing the first phase of the development of our area in Wittenbach. The “Alti Stickerei” (old embroidery) area will change over the next few years – a lot of new things will emerge.

In the post-war period the industrial nations experienced a new boom which can also be recognised in eastern Switzerland by its outstanding industrial architecture, for example in the Rhine Valley (Beldona in Widnau), in Fürstenland (Goldzack in Gossau) as well as in the Linth region (Weidmann AG in Rapperswil-Jona). Since 2010, however, job losses resulting from outsourcing to other continents have increased sharply. In socio-cultural and socio-political terms, these are the downsides of global trends. On the other hand, it is important to maintain buildings that are significant in terms of architecture and working culture and to safeguard them for the future by ensuring their revival and further development to a high standard, thereby also continuing their cultural history.
